Prom and Softball

Starting this blog will hopefully give me a little more incentive to begin taking more photographs of the kids and our family. I have this terrific camera that has spent a lot of time collecting dust in the closet, but now I have broken it out! I did manage to snap some pictures of Dane and Allison at prom in May, so I thought I would share some of those pictures of their fun evening.

Dane has been dating Brittany for a couple of years now. She is a lovely girl, and we enjoy having her around. (McKenna especially loves having Brittany around due to the attention that she gives to her.) Although Dane is going to be a sophmore at IPFW this fall he did attend the prom with Brittany, who just graduated from DeKalb High School in June, and they looked great that evening. Brittany will be attending the University of Indianapolis majoring in nursing this fall.

Allison went with Chase, who is in the same class as her at DeKalb. They will both be seniors in the fall and are undecided at this time as to where they will be attending college. Fortunately, they still have time to make some decisions. They have been together for a little over a year. They compliment each other very well and he is a nice, personable kid. They, too, looked adorable on prom evening.


As for McKenna, we have spent two to three evenings at the ball diamonds playing coaches pitch softball. I have enjoyed helping coach her team. She is quite the little athlete! She was the lead off hitter on our team and very rarely got out at first as she can out run almost every throw to first. I am glad to know that she has more speed than her mother! She is extremely intense and also loved to lead the team in cheers. We didn't have the greatest team, but we improved so much from the beginning of the season. We ended up placing third in the tournament. On Friday evening, we went back to watch the championship game so that after the game her team could get their awards. She was so fired up, but disappointed that she didn't get a "big" trophy. Instead, it was a medal. Try explaining that to a seven year old who doesn't quite understand winners vs. losers. Yikes!

Try Again!!!

So I believe that I will give this blog thing another shot. I started it a year ago, but couldn't figure the technology out; therefore, after about two hours of playing on the blogger tonight...I think that I have it. So, here goes...

On Friday, we decided to take our first trip to the zoo of the summer and it was hot. McKenna was extremely fired up about riding the ponies by herself. She insisted that she needed no help getting on or riding. I guess at the age of seven she is becoming more independent than what I am ready to accecpt. She loved the zoo and is looking forward to going back. Even Doug was impressed by the new African Journey part and the Sky Safari ride. He thought it was hilarious that the hyenas decided it was mating season on the day that we happened to be there. Not many mothers thought this was so neat as they were shoving their children away from the windows. (It was quite humorous!!) McKenna was a little sad because we had lots of tokens left but decided not to wait in the long line for the train. We will be returning to the zoo in another week with my brothers and their families when they come for the July Fourth weekend. We are all looking forward to their visit.

On Saturday, Allison played in the Fort Wayne Area High School Invitational at the Fort Wayne Country Club. She shot a 78 to win the tournament for the second year in a row. We are very proud of her for winning this. The Journal Gazette had a nice article in the paper about the tournament; unfortunately, they put a picture of someone else with her name attached to it in the paper. (Many have given her a hard time about the weight that she put on from the picture.) I called the paper on Sunday and they made the correction in this mornings paper.

Doug had an interview today for a math job at any of the LEAD schools in FWCS. We are hoping that we will hear in the next few days whether or not this pans out. In the meantime, he is pursuing other options around the area in case something doesn't work out. Please pray that they call and offer him a job at Wayne, North Side, or South Side!
